As we all know, there are many things
to coordinate and change before, during, and after a
move. This is a checklist of some important things to
keep in mind.
•
Complete all packing at least one
day prior to the actual move. It may be a little bit inconvenient,
but it will save a lot of time on moving day.
•
Make sure to change
your mailing address at the post office.
•
Reserve a moving truck or make arrangements
with a moving company
•
Make sure to have
plenty of help on moving day
•
Call all utility companies to have
your services turned off at the old residence and turned
on at the new residence. This will make sure that the
new home has hot water, power, and heat or AC.
•
Start collecting
boxes well ahead of time. The packing process always takes
longer than we think.
•
Notify all credit card accounts,
schools, doctors etc. about your change of address
•
Take the things
that are not needed to the dump or give them to an organization
like the Salvation Army. There will be plenty of things
to move!
•
Become familiar with the new neighborhood.
Find the best commute routs to home and learn where all
shopping centers, hospitals, etc. are located.
•
Mark boxes carefully about the contents.
Make sure that they are labeled where you want them to
go.
•
Make sure to pack all of your important
papers, valuables, and personal belongings yourself and
take them with you in the car. These things are important
and could really cause problems if they are misplaced.
•
Contact your insurance
company to make sure that the policy is fully transferred
and the coverage is what's desired.
•
Take a look around the new property
and look for any security vulnerabilities. If anything
is visible, have it fixed. This will help to prevent any
unwanted visitors.
There are
some other things that can be done but these are the major
issues. Doing these things will help to insure a smooth
and problem free move.
